Summer is Here

Time to play catch up here everyone. It has been almost a month since the last post and a few events have taken place. First, Congratulations to the class of 2019! Graduation was three weeks ago, but I would still like to commend all the graduates for their perseverance and all their hard work because college can be tough. Good luck in life, your careers, and don't forget about your Alma Mater as you all will always be Cougars. Show the world how great Chicago State is by excelling in everything you do.

In case you all did not see your email, Governor J.B. Pritzker removed all our Board of Trustees, as well as board members from other colleges in Illinois. Let's welcome the six new board members: Louis Carr, Brian Clay, Latanya McDade, Miriam Mobley Smith, Mark Schneider, and Andrea Zopp. Their first Board of Trustees Meeting was Monday, May 13th, 2019, and the next meeting will not be until Friday, June 28th, 2019 at 3PM in the Gwendolyn Brooks Library auditorium room 415. Since SGA elections did not take place, the student Board of Trustee has not been elected to keep us in the loop on what is going on with the board.

Hopefully everyone is enjoying their Summer Break thus far. Please stay safe and be productive. The first session of summer classes started Tuesday, May 28thand ends June 28th, 2019. The second session starts July 1st, 2019- August 3rd, 2019. If you are not taken summer classes, hopefully you are working this summer or landed an internship. It is not too late to go to the Career Development Center in Student Union Building Suite 230 and find an internship, especially if you are a Junior or Senior. Remember, before your graduate you should have at least completed one internship, and if you can, do two. Some people always say after they graduate “I can’t get hired because I don’t have experience.” An internship is experience and it is imperative that you take advantage of the opportunities here at Chicago State University so you can graduate with a job and hopefully a bigger salary depending on how much experience you have.

Also, I have heard some students complain about the Tutoring Center closing early and not being able to get the help they need in their classes as a result. As students, we all have to take advantage of the fees we are paying for. If you are struggling in a class and you can’t make office hours or you just need some extra help in a class, take advantage of the Tutoring Center so we do not lose it. Do not settle for a C because C’s get degrees; staff are here to help. C’s will not help in graduate school or in some of your core classes.

Finally, let’s clear the air. This blog the unofficial Chicago State University’s student led e-blog. Just like a normal blog, I am not here to bash Chicago State or the staff, but to REPORT. It is not my fault or anyone else’s if someone who is in the wrong is the subject of a FACTUAL post bringing light to the rest of the school. I am pro Chicago State, but I will speak up when something happens that is not fair or suspicious. If anyone would like to help make this blog, send in stories, or report on behalf of their department, feel free to email me at estella.brown0901@gmail.com.
